Upon his return vs at his return

1. Upon his return, I went to his office.

2. At his return, I went to his office.

I wonder which sentence is correct English and what is the difference in meaning between 1 and 2.

#1 is OK. You can also start 'On his return ...'

#2 is incorrect.

Simply because the phrase "on/ upon one's return or arrival..." is correct.

"At one's arrival.." is wrong
