Hi , someone asked me to rewrite this sentence. e.g.
Up until 2001, the shopping mall had been around since 1950s and has seen close to 400,000 shoppers every day.
What is wrong with the sentence above?
Up until 2001 and since the 1950s These two phrases do not fit well with each other. The Present Perfect has seen does not fit with the focus on 2001.

Up until 2001, the shopping mall had been around since the 1950s . . .
This leaves me wondering what the situation was in 2002 and 2003 and 2004 . . . My guess is it was demolished, in 2001, but it would be better to say so explicitly.
It also sounds like people were saying 'it has been around since the 1950s' almost immediately after it was built, which is odd
