Up until now is\was?

Hello guys..
Which is correct of the sentences below?

Everything I've ever done up until now was a mistake.

Or

Everything I've ever done up until now is a mistake.

And should it be has been or had been in the sentences above as an alternative way of saying them?

Both of your examples are understandable and acceptable, but in my opinion it should be written thus: Everything I've done (up) until now has been a mistake. "(up)" means that the word "up" is optional. CJ
