Hi
What's the difference between
not being up to par
and
not being acceptable
?
Thanks in advance
Let's consider a couple of complete sentences. Tom's golfing is not up to par. It's not as good as an average player's golfing.

Tom's golfing is not acceptable. I won't play with him. He doesn't play well enough.
In American English these have very different meanings. "Not up to par" is a judgement of ability, while "not acceptable" is a judgement of character:
"His English is not up to par."
"His behavior is not acceptable."
