"Up to a $100" or "up to $100"

I'm sending out a newsletter to my customers. My assistant thinks I should not have the "a" before "$100". I see it differently. This is how I have it written:
"Receive a free gift valued up to a $100"
She thinks it should be:
"Receive a free gift valued up to $100"

I would say it like this (is my argument):
"...valued up to a hundred dollars." I wouldn't say "...valued up to hundred dollars." But maybe I say it wrong! Emotion: smile

Your assistant is correct (and very brave to stand up to her boss -- I think she deserves a raise!) You would say it like this: ". . . valued up to one hundred dollars." (not "a one hundred dollars.")
