Anonymoussame meaning?
If I called someone late at night, I'd say "Are you still up?", but "Are you still awake?" would also work. They are about the same in meaning.

Thanks a lot CJ. Yes, my question was regarding calling someone at night and asking if they are still up.

I thought that 'awake' might not work in that case. Thanks again!

Ok, Yes and No. Are you still up? - You are wondering why the person has not gone to bed. Are you still awake? - With this question, the person is perceived as being already in bed but has not fallen asleep. e.g. Tom is flying to London for an interview tomorrow. H

Often, either can be used. But here is the broad idea.

up

==> Not in bed

awake ===> Not asleep. Maybe in bed, maybe not.

If someone answers the phone, they are obviously awake!
