They didn't see each other until July.
I have a question about this sentence. Is "july" included in the "not see each other" period? Did they see each other in July or in August? Thank you for your explanation.

e. they could have seen each other on July 1 or on July 31. If a definite answer is required, I will exclude July from the not-seeing period: even if they met again on the last day of July it was still IN July.

They didn't see each other until some time in July, i.e. they could have seen each other on July 1 or on July 31. If a definite answer is required, I will exclude July from the not-seeing period: even if they met again on the last day of July it was still IN July.

The homework is to be handed in by Wednesday. My question is that if I hand in on Wednesday, am I late? Many thanks.

No, you won't be late. Wednesday is the deadline. Here "by" means "not later than".
