Unrequited Love/Stress

In "unrequited love", you feel love (presumbly for someone) and that someone doesn't feel love for you. In some places, I read about "unrequited stress" that refers to stress one feels alone and others don't. This raises the question about the meaning of "unrequited". Does it mean "unreturned", "unshared", or both?

Top answer

First and foremost, it means unreciprocated ; unreturned. Secondary definitions include: vain, spurned, rejected, unsatisfied. John

Then, "unrequited stress" is a poorly phrased idea?

I wouldn't say it is poorly phrased, it's just very awkward.

If you mean that the stress was not shared or was not shared equaly, then that is exactly what you should say.

Using elaborate words to express simple thoughts makes any author look silly and his or her wirting stilted.
