It is generally believed that every high school student must participate in unpaid social campaigns. From my perspective, I totally approve of this viewpoint due to their merits.
The argument in favor of not forcing students to join community service would be that were they to spend time in those activities, they could not have plenty of time to accomplish their homework and school subjects because this level of study always covers a huge number of lessons which require them to continuously learn. As reasonable this view is; however, I consider it to be shortsighted since it is not always effective to focus on the academic theories all the time. To me, students have to gain practical knowledge and experience real-life situations via unpaid extra curriculums.
Otherwise, I am convinced that making practical activities outside school compulsory are extremely advantageous to students’ life. First, every student will clearly get access to fascinating wholesome activities from reality, regardless of their ages and backgrounds, and they therefore will easily start a relationship together during the process. They are all able to make new friends in other classes, get connected with the local and the nature which causes them to be more sociable and confident. Second, it seems to me that students will also have more appreciation of life, especially when they do charities. After witnessing the hardness of the life of the needy, young individuals will gradually value what they have got and sympathize the difficulties and then donate more money to poor people. Finally, I believe that should high school students are made to actively attend community programs, they will gain a wide range of valuable life skills, such as communication skills and time-management skills. For instance, my 17-year-old cousin has to get involved in volunteering in remote areas weekly. Therefore, she has to manage time properly and organize plans logically so that her study schedules will not be affected which makes her life easier.
In conclusion, I still claim that such unpaid social services should not be optional however beneficial this may be to students.
Thank you
