Unnecessary commas

Hello there. I have a question:

I have a question regarding the two sentences below:

(A) It is because we cannot see her now, without remembering her then, that we cannot escape remembering ourselves then at the moment of our present viewing.

(B) It is because we cannot see her, now, without remembering her, then, that we cannot escape remembering ourselves, then, at the moment of our present viewing.

(A) is from the original English text, and (B) is from an English examination made by a nonnative teacher. In reality, I don't think that (B) is a corrcet English sentence. As it is poorly punctuated, it is almost impossible to figure out how the adverbs "now" and "then" function in the sentence, in my humble opinion. What is your take on it?
