unless

Hi,

Here is a definition of unless from a dictionary:
used to give the only situation in which something will not happen or be true.

Does the sentence mean something will not happen and will not be true? Sorry did the sentence just simplify the sentence by putting the "not" in front of two verbs?

Here is some examples on how to use "unless".
I sleep with the window open unless it is very cold.
So it basically says that the only situation I will not keep the window open if it is very cold?

Thanks
