Universities should accept equal numbers of male and female students in every subject. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

It is commonly believed that men and women should be given equal education opportunities. However, I disagree with the idea of accepting the same proportion of each gender in every university subject. My reasons will be further explained in the following paragraphs.

To begin with, having equal numbers of both genders is simply unrealistic. In fact, the number of students depends on the applications received by the institution. If universities decided to fill courses with the same quantity of men and women students, it would need enough applicants. However, there are some areas that attract more men than women, including engineering, police. Consequently, these courses would be received more male applicants and it would take a lot of time and effort to fill these courses.

Apart from the concerns expressed above, I firmly believe that university education should be based on performance and talent without paying much attention to equal gender opportunities. University should continue to choose the best candidates for each course according to their qualifications. Technically, in this way, both men and women are given the same chances, and applicants know that they need to try their best to achieve good grades at school. If a female student has a better performance compared to a male counterpart, it would be wrong to reject her just because of gender criteria.

In conclusion, the selection of university students should be based on merit, and it would be both impractical and unfair to change to a selection procedure based on gender
