hi everybody
Please consider the following context, as I have several questions from underlined parts if you don't mind :
"Although [though] [even though] the ground was very wet, it was decided to go ahead with United’s game against City.
United were 1-0 winners despite not playing very well.
Despite the poor conditions, City played some attractive football, but [although] [though] [even though] they just couldn't score.
"
First: Can all the alternatives in the brackets be possible options?
Second: It is because we have the fixed phrase [it is decided that], does this one [it is decided to] seem to be correct as well? and does pronoun [it] refer to ground?
Third: Why do we use plural verb [were] with teams name?, and I couldn't figure out the use of [winners] there? what is the meanings of it?
Fourth: what is the meaning of [go head] ? [happen] or [start to do something after waiting for permission]?
Thanks in advanced.
Sorry for asking lot of questions.
