Why is this an exception to the rule that the reduced clause needn't sit adjacent to another clause with the same subject? Is there a name for it? Is it just because it's idiomatic and thus rules don't apply?

Can we omit auxiliary verbs too? For example,

I will look at these figures this evening. Let me know if you would rather I look at these figures sooner than proposed

Instead of soon than I have proposed.
