Speech & Pronunciation

'unearths'

Hi everybody,

I would like to ask: how do you pronounce an /?s/ sound pair?

E.g.: unearths, months, moths, etc.

I can't put my tongue in the right place. I really don't have any idea how native English speakers do this.

Thanks for your answer in advance.

(and sorry if the question was a little bit silly)

Not silly at all! / followed by /s/ one must let the tongue slip from between the teeth between the sounds. Many non-natives find this problematic, and they end up with the schwa sound between the two, making it sound like month-es.

  • s/ by itself, and then add the word.
  • It'll come, I'm sure.
