undertake, undertook or what !!

Hi there, recently I wrote an email, and this is part of it (( From the beginning of Haykal media, it undertook the pioneering mission of providing )). I am asking about the word "it undertook", Is it correct or not? also what is the best form of verb that I can use . thanks indeed.
