Hello all,
This coming from an American colleague (employee level, but leading the project we're working on) to European me (manager level, but "reporting" to her in this specific project), with my employee on copy, who also happens to be a project team member, and a senior project member also on copy, as a response to a slight disagreement over a task:
I want you to ... bla bla bla ... Understood?
And then ending with: We good?
I find this extremely disrespectful, especially given the reporting lines involved (me being higher level, her a subordinate level, plus my employee and a senior director on copy).
Am I being overly sensitive here, or maybe this is okay in the US? To me it does not look like a question we would ever, ever use in our part of the world...
We work together regularly with this person, certainly not the greatest friends, with some occasional tension, but on an okay basis - however, this pushed me over the line.
Any thoughts?
Thanks for your help!!
I share your concern about disrespect. I live in Canada, but I have worked on project teams that included Americans. I also think that the basic reporting structure of your team does not bode well for the success of your project!
