Understanding the word "zealous" in depth?

Zealous adj. - great energy and enthusiasm for sth, esp. because you feel strongly about it.

Does a ''zealous preacher/missionary" mean that he/she is obsessed with it/them/their work?

Moreover,

Can i say a zealous football player or a zealous teacher or a zealous criminal? In each of the case, can you tell me why or why not?

Can the opposite of "zealous" be "lethargic"?

Why do we use the words "zealot" and "zealous" differently? Don't they have the same meaning?

I think that "obsessive" is too strong a word for someone who does with zealously. With an extremely high level of enthusiasm for something, but not necessarily to the point of obsession.

I would suggest apathetic as a better antonym than lethargic.

Hi guys,

'Zealous' is essentially a positive word.

But 'zealot' is usually pejorative. It's close to saying someone is a fanatic.
