Use "beneath" instead of "under", it sounds better in both sentences. I agree with this, and I think maybe the reason is that "under" is used more in literal meanings (under the bed), while "beneath" works for both literal and metaphorical meanings (Beneath his cool exterior, he was really very warm-hearted).
