Underlying tone of our intimacy

Any idea to understand what is "underlying tone"?

Well, there is the whole underlying tone of our intimacy. We don’t have our intimacy. And Rhea really, really craves that. So what happens to me, I think, there is the little nothing fight, but then it immediately, it’s just the pebble for the pearl to really get the catalyst to get Rhea started about this intimacy thing. It happens every day.

Here's the given text rewritten, as I interpret it, in a hopefully easier-to-understand form: Well, it all boils down to the nitty-gritty of our relationship. The intimacy that Rhea craves is not there. And intimacy does not come naturally to me - is non-existent in me, in fact.
