Underlining book titles

When you mention The Koran or The Bible in a sentence do you underline it because it is a book? For instance, if you say in a sentence, "People have long been influenced by the Koran and The Holy Bible," do you have to underline the Koran and the Holy Bible? I always learned that your didn't have to underline their titles because they were not written by a specific person and/or they are sacred. I got in a debate with my teacher about it, and I really want to know the right answer.

"We do not italicize the titles of long sacred works: the Bible, the Koran. " I had never considered this point before, so I had to google, and came up with the above quote from a writing website. When I read your original post, however, I noticed that the Koran and the Bible looked quite natural un-underlined.
