Underground announcements

Dear native speakers of English,

It's about underground announcements:)

Imagine that instead of 'Please, stand clear of the doors' you hear 'The doors are about to close'))
What's your feeling?)

It sounds very strange to me, but it would be great to have your verdict.

Thank you very much.

Hi, They sound very similar to me. It's the kind of announcement that you hear so much that you don't really listen carefully anymore. Clive

Thank you for your reply, Clive (it's me, the topic starter).
So.... does you reply actually mean that the expression 'to be about to do smth' can be used not only for people, but for some moving objects, like 'doors', as well?
Thank you.
