Let’s say that an insurance company conducts some illegal activity the government knows about and supports because it has a stake in it. (I know that I should not use ‘it’ twice in the same sentence to avoid ambiguity, but I think that it works here.)
“The insurance company did all this under the umbrella/auspices of the government.”
This is a simplified example. I’m curious about the use of ‘under the umbrella/auspices’ and if it’s appropriate in this case. Perhaps you’ll come up with a better alternative.
