Under operation or in doctor's hand ?

I'm not sure about those words.

I once heard about the word that when the patient is being cured, native speakers usually use specific word or phrase for that situation but I'm not certain what word they exactly use.

The patient is now under operation.

The patient is in doctor's hand now.

What word do the native speakers usually use in this case ?

Thank you.
