uncountable noun in use

Hi,

Can you help me to use an uncountable noun?

Are these correct?

All the groaning has distressed me greatly.

All groaning needs to be stopped.

I sensed his distress by his groaning.

I also have a qualm about putting two or more adjectives in front of an uncountable noun. Is this correct?

There is blue and yellow furniture in that room.

I know it is clear to see with a countable noun.

There is a blue and yellow chair in that room. -- To me. this means there is a chair both in yellow and blue colors.

Top answer

They are okay, but "All groaning needs to be stopped" is just a weird thing to say. If each piece of furniture is blue and yellow, then I would probably write blue-and-yellow furniture. If some is blue and some is yellow, then the way you have it is fine.

Thank you, GG. Your answer does answer my question but it has engendered another question.

I have blue-and-yellow furniture in my room. -- Does it really mean I have some pieces of furniture with each piece in blue and yellow, regardless of how many pieces I have? Does hyphenation create that effect? I didn't know.

Thank you for taking time to answer my questions.

Yes, blue-and-yellow furniture means that one piece has blue and yellow in it.
