Vocabulary

UNCONSCIOUS (n) vs SUBCONSCIOUS (n)

This is what i've got from dictionary:

The UNconscious

=

(psychology) The part of a person’s mind with thoughts, feelings, etc. that they are not aware of and cannot control but which can sometimes be understood by studying their behaviour or dreams

The SUBconscious:

===
The part of your mind that contains feelings that you are not aware of

=> Both seem to be "the part of a person's mind" and "not awared of".

Could someone please tell me what the difference btw UNconscious and SUBconscious is.

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

A tricky question. Often, there seems to be little difference. Here are a couple of comments. Let's consider the adjectival form of the words.

Unconscious. 'un' means 'not', a negative, ie not conscious, without thinking. If you are knocked out, you are unconscious. If I hit your knee and it jerks, it's an unconscious movement.
