Unchain myself

'My entire life I've been a slave. It's about time to unchain myself by making this sacrifice.' I care about 'unchain myself by making this sacrifice'. How does it sound? Is 'unchain' a suitable word here?

It doesn't make good sense to me that you are freeing yourself and sacrificing at the same time. A person would break free from chains or remove chains, rather than unchain oneself, so I don't think "unchain" is a suitable word here.

It does make sense to me. I can think of different circumstances where you would sacrifice something for your freedom.
