Uncertain/unsure

As she was talking about it, Danielle became very emotional and started sobbing. Rose and Jess exchanged an uncertain look.

Do you think that 'an uncertain look' is suitable here to describe that Rose and Jess are in doubt of what to say or do to in regard to the crying Danielle?

Also, what is the difference between uncertain and unsure - in general and in this context?

  • "uncertain" seems a better choice of word here, though it is hard to really explain why in terms of a tangible difference in meaning.
  • Partly it may be just because "unsure" is less often used attributively (before a noun).
