Umbrella

Hi,

what do you call an umbrella that gets opened with a single press of a button (unlike the umbrella that must be opened manually)?

Hi, I'd just call it an umbrella. But I suppose, if I had to say something more, I might say 'an automatic umbrella'. Clive

Usually, I call mine "possessed." It seems to have a mind of its own.

Hi GG,

Perhaps you have one of the new remote-control models?

Clive, since a button should be pushed in order to open such an umbrella,
it's rather to be called semi-automatic. The fully automatic model whould be
one that automatically opens itself when it starts raining. A good idea to be
patented... =)

Hi Victor,

Yet a fully automatic weapon is not one that starts to shoot by itself (one hopes).Emotion: stick out tongue

Perhaps, these military guys didn't know that automatos means acting
independently
. =)

P.S. Sure, most of things called "automatic" don't act completely
independently. And that is a pity :'-(
