type/kind

What kind of ice cream do you have? And

What type of ice cream do you have?

Can these questions be asked? Isn't there only one kind or type of ice cream just in different flavors?

", but "what kind" is also often used to mean what flavor. ") "What type" sounds more as if you are looking for something unusual -- low-fat, organic, soy-based, etc. That's just my opinion, but I eat a lot of ice cream!

You could certainly ask "what flavor ice cream do you have?", but "what kind" is also often used to mean what flavor. (It could also mean "what brand?") "What type" sounds more as if you are looking for something unusual -- low-fat, organic, soy-based, etc. That's just my opinion, but I eat a lot of ice cream!
