Type of usage/accuracy.

He took steroids to boost his performance — not that this made any difference; he was always going to loose this race. (Is this accurate with the semi-colon ?)

Are we not using the semi-colon between a dependent clause ?




As for the story, the only thing frightening in it is it feels contemporary by todays standards.


Anything wrong with this sentence. The part in bold sounds awkward: perhaps 'is that' would be better'?

Using both a dash and a semi-colon makes the sentence very hard for the reader to interpret.and understand.

It would be easy to reword this in a way that makes it simple for the reader to understand. Forgive me for saying that it seems to me the writer couldn't be bothered to do this.
