Type of usage speech marks.

The ghost itself is reflective of positive psychological reinforcement 'fear' due to the impoverished living conditions the residents find themselves in. In the sense, the fear keeps the residents afraid and in control.

So outside the context of the writing, that is immaterial in this specific instance, can I not use 'fear' like cold cuts because it's not part of the sentence as whole. If you view it as an interjection could you use commas.

Eitherway, the speech marks are not used for quotation here in either instance. They are used for emphasis.


The newspaper is making fun, not quoting. It's different type of humour...very hard to explain. It relates to socio economic disparity. Cold cuts or meat is commonly or was commonly eaten by the poor and these individuals are very rich.
