Type of usage in these examples/contrast.

A beautiful painting, brings a real sense of the time period to life.

I've discussed various subjects here, aimed at a certain audience.

What's the difference here in terms of usage of which or which are, and how they change the sentence.

I imagine the 'which' connects the painting directly to the following phrase, but the phrase alone describes a feeling evoked by it which may or may not be direct.


And the same with the other example:

'which' is the subject of the clause in both cases.

... painting which brings ...
... subjects here which are aimed at ...

The first one is in active voice; the second one is in passive voice.
Passive voice requires an auxiliary verb which is a form of be (e.g., are). The auxiliary is followed by a past participle ( e.g., aimed).
