Type of [...] / [...]'s type

Hi

How can I better write the following two sentences?

1st: This field indicates the address type of the XYZ field.

2nd: This field indicates the address which [...]. The type of the address is specified in [another field].

Also, is there a rule to follow in these kind of constructs, or does one choose the way that sounds better for him?

Thanks!

Sounds like computer lingo to me. They have special terms like 'data type', 'address type', etc., as far as I've heard. I know an 'address' is a tiny place inside the computer where a tiny piece of data is stored, and there are an enormous number of these addresses in every computer.

So 'type' doesn't = 'kind'?

I can't be sure how the OP is using it. There are specialized uses of words in computer science and I don't want to speculate any more than I already have. Hopefully, the OP will explain in greater detail.
