Type of his/their

Hi,

Is "the type of his work" or "the type of their work" correct grammar?

That is, can I put "his" or "their" after "the type of" in this context?

Thanks!

Thanks for the reply.

"It depends on the type of his work."

Yes, it sounds correct, but I am wondering if this is a special rule somewhere about what must follow "the type of."

For example, to me, it sounds correct to say "the type of a car." But the rule says "the type of car."

What do you think?
