Type and form

Hello,
A quick question.

I am confused about the use of type and form.

1) A is a popularized type of X method (no "the" in "X method")--is this correct?

2) A is a popularized form of the X method (there IS "the")--is this correct?

It seems that "type" and "form" are basically the same in this use, but I see a lot of conflicting google search results on this...

Please help!

Thanks.

1) A saber is a type of sword,

2) Waterboarding is a form of the high-neuro torture method.

What does 'high-neuro' mean?

but...

3) Waterboarding is a type of high-neuro torture method.

Hi Clive,
Thanks for your answer.
But what if I WANT TO/NEED TO use the word "method" because it is scientific terminology?

In this case, as I said, google search reveals that "is a type of high-neuro torture mthod" and "is a form of the high-neuro torture method."

I just can't understand why "the" is missing in TYPE and not in FORM...

I can't find either of these phrases when I do a google search.

What about the following cases?

A saber is a type of a sword. ("a")

Is this incorrect grammar?

Hi,

It's said, but I don't hear educated people say it much. I'd call it 'substandard'.
