Could you possibly tell me the meaning of "two years earlier" in the below sentence?
He didn't know the girl who had died violently nine years earlier.
Does "nine years earlier" here mean" two years before" ?

You are having real problems with the concepts of earlier and later, aren't you. Isn't there a similar concept in your own language? If not, I suppose it could be difficult.

I can't understand this sentence, "I had joined the company three and a half years earlier". May anyone explain me what earlier means in this sentence?
