two wires and poles

Hi,

Following is taken from a Wikipedia article on TROLLEYBUS:

Two wires and poles are required to complete the electrical circuit...

Why not more clear and completely unambiguous "Two wires and two poles are required..."?

Or maybe that's just how English works? that is
"two wires and poles" is grammatically equivalent to "two wires and two poles" in any context?
