Two ways of understanding

'There was a party in his room after the rally in the morning.' I heard this sentence in a movie and I thought it could be understood in two ways. For example, there was a party in the morning, or after the rally in the morning. So what I mean is that 'in the morning' can modify 'was' or it can modify 'the rally'. What do native English speakers think about it? Thank you so much and have a good and safe day.
