Essay & Composition Writing

Two translations of the same thing

0Hello,02br
00 I have two translations into English of an identical text by two different translator. I would appreciate if you could tell me which is better, possibly with some comments as to why.02br

00My thesis is titled „Obesity in seniors – the health and social problem“. Obesity is a serious chronic metabolic disease characterized by the increased proportion of fatty tissue in the body composition when fatty tissue exceeds the healthy limits. The excessive body weight predisposes various diseases and also obesity is considered to be a disease.02br
02br
00Various research results confirm the fact that the number of obese persons has been increasing worldwide. Due to soaring prevalence and obesity incidence in population, the WHO (World Health Organization) declared obesity the worldwide epidemic in 1977.02br
02br
00From the viewpoint of obesity incidence seniors represent a risk group. The decreased energetic demand of the organism on the one hand, and the poor nutritional habits when junk food prevails and the lack of physical activity on the other hand, lead to overweight and obesity development.02br
02br
00This serious chronic disease needs to be properly diagnosed and treated with the focus on individual needs. The main and essential component of the fight against obesity is prevention which should be made the worldwide challenge.02br
02br
00The thesis is divided into two parts – theoretical and empirical. In the theoretical part the terms connected with the topic are explained: the definition of obesity, the obesity prevalence, consequences of obesity, causes of obesity, diagnostics in obesitology, the obesity therapy and prevention. The obesity problems in seniors are also described. The objective of the thesis was to describe the attitude of senior population towards obesity, to assess seniors´ approach to healthy eating habits and the good health condition, if they are familiar with and follow the principles of the healthy diet. The other objective of my thesis was to examine seniors´ readiness to follow the current trends in altering the lifestyle and thus to take over the responsibility for their own health condition. To conduct the research I used the quantitative method. The chosen technique was the questionnaire method.02br
02br
00In the closing part of the thesis the results of the research are mentioned. 00The research results show that the elderly do not regard obesity as a substantial health problem.02br
02br
00I guess the objective of my thesis was accomplished.02br

00The present bachelor thesis is entitled “Health and Social Aspects of Obesity in the Elderly”.00 00Obesity is a serious chronic metabolic disease characterized by an increased fat percentage in body composition with a simultaneous increase of body mass beyond the normal range.00 00Obesity needs to be seen both as a disease and as an important risk factor contributing to the development of a number of other conditions.02br
02br
00The results of extensive studies have clearly demonstrated an increase in the number of people affected by overweight or obesity on a worldwide scale.00 00The rising population prevalence and incidence of obesity prompted the World Health Organization (WHO) in 1997 to declare obesity a worldwide epidemic.02br
02br
00The elderly constitute a high-risk group in terms of obesity development.00 00The body’s reduced energy requirements on the one hand and the deeply entrenched poor dietary habits with an excess of low-quality foods coupled with reduced physical activity on the other hand necessarily lead to overweight and obesity.02br
02br
00This serious chronic disease requires a comprehensive, individual-focused diagnostic and therapeutic approach.00 00The main and irreplaceable role in combating obesity is played by prevention, which should become a society-wide task.02br
02br
00This bachelor thesis consists of a theoretical and an empirical part.00 00The theoretical section explains concepts related to the thesis topic, i.e.: obesity definition, obesity prevalence, causes of obesity development, effects of obesity, diagnostics in obesity medicine, treatment of obesity and obesity prevention.00 00It also describes the issue of obesity in the elderly.00 00The aim of the thesis was to ascertain attitudes within the elderly population towards the issue of obesity, as well as assess their level of interest in health and healthy lifestyles and whether they know and follow the current trends in healthy nutrition.00 00Another goal was to examine their willingness to get actively involved in lifestyle change, thus assuming responsibility for their state of health.00 00For the purposes of research the thesis used a quantitative research technique.00 00Questioning was chosen as a method, the resulting technique used being a questionnaire.02br
02br
00The practical part of the bachelor thesis closes with an analysis including an evaluation of results.00 00The research results show that the elderly do not regard obesity as a substantial health problem.02br
00In my opinion, the stated aim of the thesis has been achieved.0-

0The second is better as it is written in more appropriately formal language (phrases like 'I guess...' are inappropriately informal). The first translator also has some problems with article use and just doesn't sound quite as 'natural' English. There are some strange word choices, such as 'organism'. We don't use this term for human beings. 02br
