What does the time adverbial 'two, three etc. summers ago' exactly mean?

Hi, If you say in November 2011 'I met Tom three summers ago', I would take this to mean you met him in the summer of 2009. Clive

If you say in November 2011 'I met Tom three summers ago', I would take this to mean you met him in the summer of 2009.
