Two situations from Mr.Monk

Hi guys,
I finally found some time to finish the translation of one Mr.Monk episode (7x03). Can you please help me with the two situation from it...Just two short questions...
1) Context: Director of one TV station, where one lotto girl was murdered, brought to Natalie Teeger the list of all employees in that TV station. That director now has a problem, because he doesn't have the lotto girl for drawing the numbers in the lottery. He noticed that Natalie looks natural so he offered her to be the next lotto girl...

Director: What's your name?
Natalie: Natalie Teeger.
Director: Ms. Teeger, I know this probably sounds callous( Stale? Corny? What's the right meaning of this word here?), but have you ever done any acting? I know it's terrible timing, but we need someone to pick the numbers. Only for one night. We can hold a regular audition over the weekend. (What did he say here? That they'll have a time to set the regular audition next weekend? That they won't be under the time press?) What do you think?

2) Context: Captain Stottlemeyer won a big Jackpot in this episode, but the lottery commissioner suspended
all payment to him, because later it turned out that he and Natalie (that lotto girl who had drawn the numbers) are friends and, in addition, that the lottery machine was rigged. So the lottery commissioner accused Stottlemeyer and Natalie for cheating...Natalie then came to Mr.Monk begging for help.

Natalie: They said we cheated.
Mr.Monk: Why? Just because you know the Captain? I mean, it looks bad, but it's not impossible.(I have an dilemma here..:-( Please, did he say that the situation looks bad, but it's not impossible to solved it??? Or did he say...I know that it looks suspicious that you know Captain, but actually it is possible, why not?...
Natalie: No, it's not just that. They said they have proof. They checked the equipment. There
was something wrong with the machine. It was rigged.

I have just these two problems. It was quite easy episode.
thanks guys in advance for your help.
Best Regards
JCD

Hi,
Director: What's your name?
Natalie: Natalie Teeger.
Director: Ms. Teeger, I know this probably sounds callous( Stale? Corny? What's the right meaning of this word here?), Unkind, uncaring. The idea is that he is just thinking of business instead of

For the second one, I'd say "It looks bad (that you helped him win) but it's not impossible that it's simply a coincidence that the lottery girl would know the winner."

That was a good episode - I remember it now.

Yeah, I agree. There were a lot of funny situations....My favourite was when Stottlemeyer was working out in the gym and Mr.Monk wanted to swing by there, but Stottlemeyer said: "Monk, you don't wanna come down here, they're naked people here"...
