Two sentences

Hello,

Are the two sentences correct and do you agree with the explanations?

Since my childhood I have desired to be an actress.
(If she still desires to be an actress then present prefect should be used, if she refers to past (and she has already become an actress) -past simple)

My brother has written several plays. He has just finished his latest.

(Past simple -if the speaker refers to an action in the past-My brother wrote several plays) And present perfect-if the action finished recently. My brother has written several plays)

I added a few more sentences.
Where is my bike? It________ outside the house, but it’s not there now. (be)
  • was
  • has been ( I used 'has been' if it was left there recently, otherwise past simple.
.
I did German at school, but I_________________most of it now. (forget)
  • have forgotten(In my opinion have forgotten is better as the person is speaking about present.
  • forgot
It_____________ raining for a while, but now it’s raining again. (stop) (I used has stopped, as it must have happned recently)
  • has stopped
  • stopped
The police____________three people, but later they let them go. (arrest) (I think both can be used)
  • arrested
  • have arrested
The town is very different now. It_________________a lot. (change)
  • changed
  • has changed( The result is obvious and because of that I used present perfect)
Thanks

(If she still desires to be an actress then present prefect should be used, if she refers to past (and she has already become an actress) -past simple) If you use 'since my childhood', then that time-period extends to the present moment, and only the present perfect is appropriate. If the period of time ended in the past, then you need 'from my childhood'. Nina_Nia My brother has written several plays.

  • Nina_Nia My brother has written several plays.
  • My brother has written several plays) It's nothing to do with recently-finished actions.
  • Only the present perfect is appropriate unless you mention a past time-period - My brother wrote several plays when he lived in Russia.
