Letter Writing

Two sample letters - do the job?

Hello friends,

I have posted these letters for your consideration. I am not begging for immediate replies but I hope you’ll spare a minute to look at what I have done.

TASK 1

The task goes like – Write a letter to your employer describing yourself and your position. Suggest some changes that might be done to improve your workplace.

SAMPLE LETTER

Dear Sir/Madam,

I am writing to propose some improvement that might be done to the cashier service at your store.

I am an overseas student at London College doing my BS in biology. I have been working as a part-time cashier for a year, since 12 October 2004. I chose the job because I needed extra money to cover my living expenses. I have found your store to be a perfect place for all groups of customers with different preferences. I enjoy and value my job that is why I am very sensitive to all minor problems a person might encounter while shopping at your place.

I have noticed that while customers are paying for their goods no staff is there to help them do the packaging. It creates unnecessary congestions at the checkout since the cashier have to wait until shoppers put their purchases in the bags themselves to attend to the next person.

I believe if we resolve this problem we could raise the sells on the next level.

Should you require further information contact me at 5436789.

Yours faithfully,

xxxxxxxxxxxxx

TASK 2

You hired a car from a car hiring company. You were involved in a minor car accident.
Write a letter to the hiring company about how the accident happened since they need to provide the information to the insurance company.
a: You need to mention and explain the accident
b: You need to include the information on when you hired the car
c: What did measures you take after the accident.

SAMPLE LETTER

Dear Sir/Madam,

I am writing you to explain the minor accident that has happened with the car I hired from your company on 12 October.

The car you put at my disposal is a white Ford Sierra whose registration number is QAZ 123 and its engine number is HTA 4563727798. Today morning I was pulling out of the parking lot into the street and took a left turn unaware of another car coming my way from the opposite direction. I swerved from a head-on collision but not so fast to avoid damage to the right headlight of my car. After the accident, I went out of the car to check if something else had been broken down. Obviously, everything except the shattered headlight was in order.

Another car got a few scratches on its front bumper so the driver agreed to be paid on the spot. I reported the police about details of the accident. I also took a few photos of the scene which I enclose in this letter.

Tomorrow, 2.00 pm, I am returning the car to your agency and would like to apologise for the inconvenience I might have caused you.

Yours faithfully,

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Best wishes,

Dmitrij.

hi nona the brit,

Thank you very much for your attention to my letters. I rewrote my second letter according to your suggestions. I also dared to insert my own corrections which, I believe, might be also helpful.
