Two questions

1. Is 'forget ~ing' less common than 'forget about ~ing' in modern English? For example, 'She will never forget about seeing Paul McCartney in concert' is much more often used than 'She will never forget seeing Paul McCartney in concert?'

2. 'Why don't you ~?' form usually is used to advise someone to do something . However, if I want to ask a question to know a real reason, not to advise, how can I ask it of him or her? Is the same question also suitable for that?
