two prepositions: in between

I just don't like the bits in between when you have to hit the ball.

Are in and between both prepositions? Can I use just one preposition "in" or "between" here?

When BETWEEN is used as an adverb,in the sense "in the space/period of time separating two or more points/objects or two events/dates"usually IN precedes.As a preposition in all senses it stands alone.
