Two Other Questions

Hi, guys. This is William. The two questions below are rather confusing for non-native speakers. Could you help me tell them apart? Thank you~

1. With so much work to DO, we can’t play outside any longer.
Can we replace “to do” here with “to be done”, that is, “With so much work to be done, we can’t play outside any longer.”?

2. The place was heavily guarded, because inside its walls ____________.
A.where lived the queen B. lived the queen C. there lived the queen D. that lived the queen
The answer is B. Why not C? We can say there lived the queen inside its walls, or, there was a tree near the lake, cant’ we?

This is tricky because several answers might be feasible, but you have to pick the best answer. Here, C. is possible, but B. is the b
