Two men odd, two men eye, two men ice?

I can't understand what the Lieutenant Detective says in *****. It sounds to me like "with two men eye". Does that make sense to you? Not to me.

This is what I hear in this excerpt:

Police officer: Well, break it out, break it out, go to bed.
Detective Lt.: Well, mother, it seems I'm still on first base **********.
Old woman: Why don't you leave well enough alone? You're just causing me trouble.
Detective Lt.: I was born near a glue factory...

Source. Roger Touhy, gangster (1944) US movie. No subtitles, no script available.
