Two in one package: verb tense and gerund

Hi. Please tell me if the part underlined can be in a past perfect tense as it seems to me that the event happened before his or her having been embarrassed. Sorry, did I correctly put the possessive phrase ( I don't know it's the right term) "his or her" before the phrase "having been embarrassed"? I think this is fine.

His playing the guitar at night have caused me to lose my sleep many days.

I think, here the phrase "playing the guitar" is a gerund like in the sentence "His listening of music without his headphone has caused many nights of lost sleep." RIght?

The main (second) question I was going to ask before being troubled by grammar of my question was this. Can the underlined be a past perfect tense, instead of a past tense?

It was unsettling in heart because someone I had been attracted to told me that I looked like I was in middle school.

Let's correct the sentence first.

His playing the guitar at night has caused me to lose sleep for many days.

The underlined part is a gerund, so its tense cannot be changed. It has no tense. Gerunds don't have tense.
