I've been wondering for awhile about the use of two hyphens in phrases such as "low- and high-priced" in a sentence.
In my eyes, the first hyphen seems unnecessary. However, I have found examples of this usage via Google on respected websites. Also, it appears that it may be a US/UK thing, where the double hyphen is used more in the UK?
However, I cannot find any definitive answers regarding this usage. Is it correct both ways (with or without the first hyphen)?'
Thanks so much!
:-) Michael

Strictly speaking, the first hyphen should be there, though many omit it to improve flow.
